Aston University is home to the Graduate Advantage scheme.
Part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund, the scheme offers paid graduate-level employment within SMEs in the West Midlands. A consortium of universities and university colleges support the scheme. Graduates come from a wide range of degree disciplines so offer excellent opportunities for businesses to fulfil internships.
Over the past 12 months, Flomatik has needed recruitment support to fill their growing teams.
Successful graduates need to have a level of maturity and be able to adapt to new environments. Placed in Flomatik’s GIS mapping department, a graduate from the scheme buddied up with an experienced GIS Operator. Here, the recruit began training in the integral process of planning and designing networks for customers such as Virgin Media and Vodafone. Showing enthusiasm to both impress and learn led to this graduate being offered a permanent position at Flomatik.
Flomatik`s new recruit had some valuable advice for recent graduates. “Definitely take up the role and step out of your comfort zone. My experiences with Flomatik will be valuable throughout my career.”
Most of all, recruiting graduates has helped Flomatik build a diverse, well balanced team.
Steve Slater, Head of Flomatik Resourcing and T&M concluded. “The work they have been undertaking is important and allows us to achieve our business targets in a more cost effective manner. Additionally, the interns are gaining an industry recognised skill set.”
