A network of fibre has already been laid in Bournemouth, passing over 20,000 homes, to make this the first ‘Fibre City’ in the UK. This network is true Fibre to the Home, and is capable of Gigabit speeds to every residence, representing a real alternative to the current copper-based BT network. In Bournemouth, the network will eventually pass 60,000 homes.
The company already has contracts with over 100 organisations including local authorities and police forces and universities, and aims to offer high speeds to business and domestic customers in cities throughout the UK. Metropolitian rings in 7 cities are already up and running, including almost 30,000 Km of fibre in the ground. Local authorities are particularly interested in ways in which services, such as healthcare consultations, can be delivered directly to residents in their homes.
Undertaking a major implementation of new fibre is a significant task, and Flomatik’s expertise was invaluable to CityFIbre during the initial phases of the Bournemouth rollout. Flomatik was able to supplement the CityFibre internal planning team with additional resources to ensure design work could be completed in time to keep up with aggressive build schedules, carrying out survey and design work. We aim to be a full turnkey planning partner to CFH when the revitalised build programme gets underway in 2012.
