Isle of Wight FttH network design phase 1 completes

Chris Bird, Business Unit Leader - Managed Services

Flomatik has recently completed the first phase of the FttH network design for Wightfibre covering 30,000 greenfield residential and commercial premises.

From the outset, Flomatik has been central to the Wightfibre project, providing a blend of managed services and lead expert personnel. In addition to the Architectural Design Authority and Programme Manager, we’ve recently introduced a Network Planning Manager and Quantity Surveyor to further bolster the Wightfibre team in their formative stages.

The project hasn’t been without its challenges, as we learned to tailor our approach to better fit the unique, close-knit community on the Isle of Wight and the sensitive approach required when dealing with the highways’ authority and local council. All stakeholders have a deep and vested interest in the ways of the Island, so we are delighted to have successfully delivered 33 nodal designs, covering 37,658 homes, on time for the new build programme.

Now, as we enter into 2019, Flomatik will undertake the second phase of the project, producing designs to overlay and infill the existing coaxial broadband network that serves Wightfibre’s existing, happy customers.  This phase will deliver approximately 18,000 overbuild premises using the existing duct network, with plans to decommission the existing network equipment.

With the network design complete on schedule, this will put Wightfibre firmly on course to complete the build by early 2021.
